A behind the scenes look of our Jib on a commercial for Make Films shooting Sight and Sound theaters David spot.
Sight & Sound Director Ryan Miller wanted to wrap around their subject “David” while he performed, as they rear projected images onto a hologram screen.
Building our Jimmy Jib onto a Fischer dolly on top of circular dolly track worked very well for this. It gave us the ability to change the camera elevation while circling and also move the lens inward and outward depending on the shot.
We had to extend the standing area on the dolly base. Since the Jib has a 6′ tail at this length and would put my feet hanging on the edge of the dolly.
I switched up operating off of the side and also the back of the Jib depending on where the Jib head needed to be and what the action was.
DP Steve Buckwalter had his hands full as there was so many things moving at once.
Not only was the Jib moving on the track, but the talent “David’ was performing, while lighting cues and projected images and video happened all at the same time.
As always, Steve and the crew at Sight & Sound made it all work flawlessly and it looked beautiful.
